Cherrim is one of the Pokemon ever created. I’m actually really interested to see if this pokemon gets much use in this draft league because it has some unique things it can do but I’ve never really heard anyone talk about it much at all in a competitive context. So, the main gimmick with Cherrim is its signature ability Flower Gift, which changes its form in the sun and gives itself and all its allies a 1.5x Special Defense AND Attack boost. I suppose that makes it a really good support, but we don’t have any drought users in this pool so making use of it may prove a bit difficult. Besides, the only drought users that exist are special attackers, so the Attack boost is only so valuable. Prankster Sunny Day is also not ideal because Cherrim itself is a Special Attacker, and anyone with the ability Prankster is bound to be weak offensively. This leaves Cherrim with the unfortunate burden of needing to set its own sun for your team to get the most out of its ability. At 85 speed though, it’s not unreasonable that you might be able to benefit from that boost within the same turn of setting it up. Plus, everything I just said only pertains to the Attack boost side of it, the Special Defense boost cannot be overlooked, that’s extremely valuable. That’s essentially a free Assault Vest for the whole team as long as Cherrim is on the field. It is highly conditional, though. It’s certainly no Friend Guard. Cherrim also gets the extremely rare (but just as useless) move Flower Shield, which raises the defense of all grass types by 1. Um…cool! Yeah, aside from that, there’s not much more to say about Cherrim. Its stats are aggressively mediocre across the board and its movepool is only okay. Helping Hand and Pollen Puff are really the main ways it can contribute to battle after setting sun. But I have a feeling you’re always gonna want the same 4 moves- Sunny Day, Helping Hand, Pollen Puff, and Protect. I can think of better supports but I can think of worse ones too. I’ve never seen a pokemon like Cherrim though. I’m excited to see what it can do.
