Rhyperior is kinda hype. If your opponent doesn’t happen to have a good special attacker, it can be hard to deal with this guy. A staggering 140 Attack, 115 HP, and 130 Defense put it a cut above the rest on the physical end of things. It does have only 55 Special Defense though. And unfortunately for Rhyperior, special attacks not only exist, but also tend to come in the form of water or even grass type attacks, both of which it is 4x weak to. Life sure is hard for rock-ground types. However, if you put this bad boy in sandstorm on a team with, say, Hippowdon on it, the 50% Special Defense boost, combined with the ability Solid Rock and perhaps a strategically-chosen berry to reduce super effective damage, it could all come together to compensate for that glaring weakness. The last hurdle to making Rhyperior really pop off would be getting Trick Room up, as its 40 speed makes it pretty hard to use without it. But WITH Trick Room? Uh, yeah, hide your lunch money, kiddos, cuz Rhyperior is here to crack some skulls. Earthquake, Hammer Arm, Heat Crash, Heavy Slam, Rock Slide, Rock Blast, High Horsepower, Body Press, Supercell Damn Slam, I’m just getting started, Superpower, Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, Poison Jab, Megahorn, Aqua Tail, Crunch, Shadow Claw??? You get the picture. No pokemon in the game is safe from this avalanche of coverage moves (it also gets Avalanche, if you were curious). It just needs some help getting where it needs to be. Good pokemon, probably a 4th or 5th rounder. I’d say if you get it in round 6, that’s a really good value.
