Before I bury the lead, Dialga is a good Pokemon– not quite an all-time great, but certainly one of the strongest Pokemon in this draft pool. It will absolutely be selected in the first round, and very likely to be drafted in the first 4 picks. Dragon/ Steel is a fantastic typing with an insane 9 resistances and 1 immunity and great type synergy. Steel neutralizes dragon’s weaknesses to Fairy and Ice, while Dragon neutralizes Steel’s weakness to Fire. With 100 or more in HP, and both defenses, Dialga will be hard to take down quickly. Its only two weaknesses in Fighting and Ground both usually hit on the physical side– Dialga’s better defensive stat. Offensively, it is fantastic with 150 base special attack threatening huge damage on basically everyone with its solid coverage move pool. So, if it is so great, why only in the top 4? Well, the number 1 spot goes to Arceus and it isn’t close. And Dialga is likely worse than its Pearl counterpart due to being slower and having a worse signature move. Also, rounding out the top 3 is Heatran who has a mega which is just a giant ball of stats. So… fourth. Just missed the podium. Dialga’s signature move, Roar of Time, is single-target, only 90% accurate…for some reason… and needs a recharge turn. That means it needs to rely on Dragon Pulse and Flash Cannon for STAB. These are solid moves, but hardly befitting a restricted legendary. Again, it is a really good Pokemon, but just not as good as its peers.
