I love this guy! If nothing else, look up the cries for both Abomasnow and Snover. Great stuff. Battling? Oh they’re awful. As we have seen with many pokemon in previous seasons: having an easily exploitable weakness typically makes you pretty bad. Abomasnow’s weakness: abysmal typing. These two types, while thematically interesting together, do not play well and basically do nothing for each other. Grass and Ice are both weak defensively and that leaves this poor guy with 7 types which can hit them for super effective damage– fire is even a 4x weakness. Since everyone can counter-team in draft league, be prepared because everyone on your opponent’s team that can, will carry a fire coverage move. It’s a shame too, because if you ignore the typing, Abomasnow has a lot going for it. By the stats, it has surprisingly good bulk. Since it also gets a great ability, Snow Warning, it benefits from the 50% boost in physical defense that ice types get in the snow. Even better, it gets access to Aurora Veil which is both screens rolled into one, so it can provide good support even if it goes down quickly. Offensively, grass/ ice fares much better with only Steel and Fire types resisting both. Since Sinnoh is weird, and dual-types exist, this means only 8 pokemon lines from Sinnoh can’t be hit for neutral with this STAB combination. Those pokemon are: Infernape,Trash Wormadam, Bronzong, Lucario, Magnezone, Magmortar, Rotom Heat, and Heatran (who quad resists both). Not bad. In its mega it gets a lot more stats, but becomes much slower. If you want to make this beast shine, it needs Trick Room support. And that’s the problem. They are too frail to function without Trick Room but setting it up can be a pain. I wish it were better, but I have a feeling that you can pick up this one as a cheap mega in rounds 3 or 4, maybe even later.
